Traditional New Mexico folk art of the 'Santero' in this case 'Santera' (maker of saint images), are religious figures on 'Retablos' ( paintings on wooden panels) of Saints and Angels. Process of multimedia gesso, ink, water color, and oil on wood. 1750 was the beginning of the'santero' period in New Mexican folk art. When I started painting retabols it became a prayer and meditation for me, and they all come through with there special look and vibration. I have also started working with tin, a variety of images all traditionally hand punched with nail and hammer.
